Traveling to Northwaters
Travel
Travel to our program is really very simple. Our basecamps are located roughly 250 miles north of Toronto, Ontario and 200 miles west of Ottawa, Ontario. We meet participants in Toronto, Ottawa and Temagami. Please note the new passport regulations below that are in affect this year.
New Passport Regulations:
With the establishment of new travel regulations in the U.S. and Canada, we strongly urge all participants to travel with a passport this summer, whether they are flying or driving.
As of January 23, 2007, U.S. citizens flying to and from Canada are required to have a valid passport. This requirement might be extended to all travel (by land, sea, or foot) between the U.S. and Canada as early as January 1, 2008.
Due to these new regulations, the demand for passports has significantly increased so you should allow at least six-eight weeks for the application process.

Meeting us in Toronto:
Most participants fly into Pearson International Airport, Toronto on the first day of the program. This is where we meet participants traveling by both plane and car. Participants arriving by planes will first pass through customs and then exit through a gate where a camp representative will be waiting for them. For those arriving by car, a staff representative will be located at the arrivals level of terminal #3, international area to greet participants. We require that participants arrive before 12:00noon on this day. Once we have rendezvoused with participants arriving by both plane and car, we board our charter buses for the trip north to Temagami.
Meeting us in Ottawa:
We also meet participants in Ottawa on the first day of the program. This is more convenient for those traveling from Eastern Ontario, Quebec and Northeastern US states. We meet participants at the Catherine Street bus station at 11:00am on the first day of a program and travel together to basecamp in charter buses or vans.
Meeting us in Temagami:
Some participants also meet us in Temagami. We meet families in the town of Temagami around 6:00pm on the first day of the program. Once we have rendezvoused with participants arriving from both Toronto & Ottawa we travel by boat (Northwaters) or float plane (Langskib) to our island basecamps.
At the end of a session, participants travel back to the same locations in Toronto or Ottawa for flights & pick-ups after 3:00pm. For those families meeting their children in Temagami, we rendezvous with parents around 8:00am on the last day of the program.
